Head-to-Head Comparison

Workyard Alternative for Electrical Contractors

Workyard is a GPS time clock for construction crews, built around payroll accuracy and job costing: precise location tracking, geofences, cost codes and a long list of payroll connections. FieldTimesheet does less on purpose: clean hours from your crew, a line about what got done, and invoices your customers don't fight.

Workyard sells per user, starting at $6 per user per month billed annually, with monthly billing also available. Its plans cover precise GPS tracking, a live view of crew locations, driving and travel time detection, geofenced clock-in, cost codes, scheduling and connections to QuickBooks, ADP, Gusto, Paychex, Foundation and more. For a contractor whose main problem is payroll and job cost accuracy across many sites, that is a deep tool.

The question for an electrical shop billing T&M is different. When the customer asks what three electricians did for two days, can you hand them a record they can follow? Hours alone do not answer that. Hours with a line about the work do: Thu 7:02a to 3:48p, pulled and terminated circuits 12 to 18, second-floor east wing.

FieldTimesheet is built around that line. At clock-out the electrician writes one sentence about the work, and that note goes onto a customer billing packet with the date, who worked, hours, your bill rate and the amount. What you pay your electricians never appears on it.

Below is a straight comparison using Workyard's own pricing, plan comparison and QuickBooks pages, checked October 17, 2026. Where Workyard does more, the table says so.

Our Verdict

Workyard is the deeper payroll and job costing tool: precise GPS, live crew locations, geofences, cost codes, scheduling and connections to most payroll systems. If your problem is getting accurate hours and job costs across many sites, it is built for that, and FieldTimesheet is not.

FieldTimesheet is narrower. It gets the hours and a line about the work from each electrician, then turns that into a billing packet a customer can read, with your bill rate and never your cost rate. If your problem is T&M invoices that get questioned, that is the part that matters.

Workyard can cost less per head on its entry plan when billed annually; FieldTimesheet is a flat $39 or $99 a month by crew size, month to month, with no feature tiers. Run a real week on the free trial, print the billing packet for one job, and decide from that.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is if your main job for the software is clean hours and invoice backup a customer can follow. Each clock-out carries a short note about the work, and the billing packet shows date, who worked, what was done, hours, your bill rate and the amount. It is not a replacement if you depend on Workyard's live crew locations, geofences, cost codes, scheduling or its ADP, Gusto and Paychex connections, which FieldTimesheet does not have.

Workyard's pricing page, checked October 17, 2026, says plans start at $6 per user per month billed annually, with monthly billing also available. It does not list prices for the Pro or Autopilot plans. Confirm current prices with Workyard. FieldTimesheet's Crew plan is $99 per month for up to 10 workers, and Starter is $39 per month for up to 3, both month to month.

Yes. Workyard lists notes, receipts and photos on time entries. The difference is where the note ends up. In FieldTimesheet the clock-out note goes straight onto a customer billing packet with your bill rate, so the explanation of the hours is ready to hand to the customer.

There is no import tool. You add your active jobs and invite your electricians by email, which takes a few minutes for a small shop. Each electrician opens the invite, sets a password and can clock in the same day.

No. FieldTimesheet connects to QuickBooks Online only. You click Sync on the Time page to send completed entries as time activities, one way, from FieldTimesheet to QuickBooks. If you are on QuickBooks Desktop, use the CSV export and printed reports instead.

No. GPS is recorded with the clock-in and clock-out punches only. There is no live location view and no geofence. The point is to document the work, not to watch the crew.

The billing packet is the part Workyard does not list: date, who worked, what was done, hours, bill rate and amount, with the crew's own notes. Look at a sample before you start a trial, then compare plans.
